Mental health is often overlooked in a medical field in which the somatic part seems to be the only object that requires healing. The postpartum period due to changes that occurred during pregnancy is a critical period in addition to the physiological changes of pregnancy , some events that can alter mental health added . As usually the OB - GYN is not prepared to detect psychological distress , often sub - diagnose and ignore mental illness, so there is apparently a low incidence of detected cases. In order to know what was the prevalence of psychological distress in a sample of postpartum women treated at the " Centro Materno - Children Bastion Popular " A cross-sectional study in which 176 patients were evaluated mediente Goldberg validated test was performed. The results showed a prevalence of psychological distress in 51% of patients. The affected patients usually had between 18 and 30 years, were married and had completed high school. The psychological distress was evident more often in marginal population ages, marital status with no legal status stability. The type of most frequent mental distress was moderate .
