This investigation project had the objective of analyzing the social support perceived by the students of a public university from Guayaquil, Ecuador and its relation with their general and academic self- efficacy. It had a quantitative approach and a correlational scope. The sample non-probabilistically selected consisted of 59 first semester students. The results were obtained by applying the following instruments: Multidimensional Social Support Perceived Survey (MSSPS), General Self-Efficacy Scale (EAG) and Self-Efficacy Perceived in Academic Situations Scale (EAPESA). It was found that the social support perceived levels were low-average, while both general and academic self-efficacy were average. The positive correlation found between perceived social support and self-efficacy was low- moderated, while between both self-efficacy variables, it was highly significant. The conclusions are that social support is modestly related to the development of self-efficacy and that there is an implicit social need in most college students in this country.
