Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación., 2017) Alvarez Mosquera, Sanddy del Carmen; Arreaga Becilla, María José; Bravo Bravo, IsraelThis thesis worked with the possible effects that the extensive reading technique could have in reading comprehension in English as a foreign language of the students 2nd Year Bachillerato Vicente Rocafuerte High School of Guayaquil city in 2017 – 2018 Academic Year. This thesis claimed that if you motivate the students to read what they want to read and when they want to read, for pleasure, the students will develop a reading habit which will subsequently improve their reading comprehension abilities and English in general. In this research project, the researchers used the observation technique to assess the resources used in class and an interview and survey to gather information about the problem. At the end of this investigation project, there was a proposal which was created to help the teacher motivate the students in order to apply the extensive reading technique in class. This paper concluded supporting the idea that the extensive reading is very useful in developing a reading habit and therefore raising the proficiency level of the reading comprehension skill.
