Este trabajo de investigación se basa en describir los indicadores de éxito y los diferentes factores que nos pueden llevar a un fracaso en endodoncia, los cuales son un problema que puede ocurrir durante el tratamiento endodóntico, estos fracasos suelen suceder debido a diversos factores que pueden ser pre operatorios, operatorios y post operatorios entre los cuales podemos nombrar: perforaciones radiculares, fracturas, dientes con curvatura radicular extrema, sobre y subobturación, desconocimientos anatómicos por parte del profesional, accidentes con los instrumentos durante el tratamiento entre otros. Este trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar los factores asociados al fracaso y éxito del tratamiento para lo cual se determinaron los factores que provocan fracasos y los parámetros de éxitos. Se realizó una revisión documental de libros y artículos científicos. Los métodos utilizados inductivo – deductivo, y con un diseño de investigación no experimental, descriptivo, y bibliográfico. Los resultados fueron presentados en tablas y gráficos estadísticos con cada uno de sus análisis en donde los factores más prevalentes fueron la sobre y subobturación y la anatomía. Con lo cual se concluyó que los fracasos endodónticos fueron más comunes en casos de subobturación o sobreobturación del conducto radicular seguido por obturaciones defectuosas por falta de obturación de conductos no encontrados lo que derivarían a un retratamiento por lo que se recomendó tener un buen conocimiento de la anatomía dental, utilizar instrumentos que nos ayuden a realizar un buen diagnóstico como lo son la magnificación y las tomografías para dar un correcto diagnóstico y evitar fracasos.
This research is based on the description of the indicators of success and the different factors that can lead to a failure in endodontia and failures that occur during endodontic treatment. These failures usually happen due to various factors that can be pre-operative, operative and post-operative, among which there are: root perforations, fractures, teeth with extreme root curvature, over and sub-obturator, anatomical ignorance by the professional, accidents with the instruments during the treatment among others. This research aimed to analyze the factors associated with the failure and success of the treatment for which the factors that cause failures and success parameters were determined. A documentary review of books and scientific articles was carried out. The methods used were inductive - deductive, and with a non-experimental, descriptive, and bibliographic research design. The results were presented in statistical tables and graphs in which most prevalent factors were displayed such as the over and subobturation, and the anatomy of the teeth. In all, endodontic failures were more common in cases of sub or over-filling of the root canal followed by defective seals due to lack of obturation of missing canals that resulted in retreatment. It is recommended to have a good knowledge of the Dental anatomy, and also dental professional ought to employ instruments that help us make a good diagnosis such as magnification and tomography to give a correct diagnosis and avoid failures.
