Resumen
La conducta emocional del niño, generar comúnmente estrés que
proviene del miedo y la ansiedad que se presenta ante lo desconocido.
Un niño con temor y poco cooperador hace que la calidad del tratamiento
dental no sea el adecuado; dándole confianza al niño, previa aprobación
del tratamiento indicado, cuya duración se establece en un determinado
número de visitas previamente asignadas.
Sin embargo, la información previa que tengan en el tratamiento dental, y
a las técnicas de manejo de conducta de quien atiende el caso, es un
aspecto muy importante en la salud bucal del niño, ya que en gran parte
ellos proyectan sus propias experiencias negativas que asociado a sus
propios patrones culturales, repercuten en su comportamiento.
El odontólogo no puede controlar el desarrollo del individuo y el medio
ambiente en el cual se desenvuelve. Estos incluyen la personalidad, el
temperamento, la actitud y la relación con los padres, el estado de
desarrollo emocional e intelectual, los estereotipos sociales que se tengan
acerca del tratamiento odontológico y los posibles antecedentes de abuso
físico o maltrato. Aun así es importante reconocerlos e identificarlos con el
fin de entender mejor al paciente y poder aplicar mejor las técnicas de
manejo de conducta.
La cooperación del paciente es fundamental para permitir la ejecución de
su tratamiento, haciendo que este sea lo menos desgastante para ambos,
ésta condición se puede lograr cuando el paciente confía en el
profesional, y puede mantenerse si los padres o los cuidadores también
tienen esta confianza, ya que las opiniones de los adultos influencian de
un modo importante las vidas de los niños.
El manejo de conducta del paciente odontopediátrico exige un
entrenamiento y conocimiento del desarrollo emocional y sociológico del
niño.
