Diabetes mellitus (DM) encompasses a heterogeneous syndrome influenced by genetic and environmental factors, characterized by chronically elevated blood glucose levels and carrying economic, familial, social, and health implications. This study examines demographic characteristics such as age, gender, province, and canton of origin in patients with diabetes mellitus, presented in bar graphs and frequency tables with the aim of identifying patterns. It was observed that the province of Guayas records the highest number of cases, with a prevalence rate of 16.6 cases per 10,000 inhabitants, followed by provinces of the region adjacent to the coast. Age groups with the highest incidence of diabetes mellitus are between 30 and 59 years old. No significant differences by gender were observed, suggesting the influence of pre-existing medical conditions in patients. This study provides a better understanding of the epidemiological behavior of diabetes mellitus and underscores the need to improve care protocols for more accurate diagnosis, as well as to promote socio-economic and psychological support programs that enhance the quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus.
